Enable your workforce Mobile and Web

MindActive can develop your website and build online web applications to help manage your business process, but we can also enable your workforce with mobile apps on a tablet or smart phone.

OK enough of the marketing mumbo jumbo, we built a website for a local tree removal service and built them an online tree removal calculator. We are now working to deploy that app as a mobile tool for estimators in the field. This allows for people to quickly get an estimate, and make a decision on the spot.

HBO Go

HBO GO BANNER HBO Go
If you have HBO you need to check out HBO Go for your iPhone/iPad. Very cool, able to view all past shows, very much like HULU+. Free with having HBO. Gotta say it looks nice. I just put it on my iPad and the picture is awesome. I am actually watching a series while typing this post. It is like HBO on demand for my devices. If I want to sit outside or hang out around my wifi. I dare not try it over 3G as I am sure it will chew up my 2GB in one movie. Really have to say that HBO has done something right for all of the $$ I spend on that service.

Titanium Studio for Mobile App Development

Appcelerator Titanium Studio for Mobile App DevelopmentAppcelerator studios new launch of Titanium Studio has made it a more integrated development platform. The new integration of Aptana has created a platform for actually edit and manage the files through out the development process. It is even easier now to be able to develop quick simple mobile apps in an environment that is more clear and clean.

Mobile apps get easier to build each day it seems but the code seems more and more sofisticated to get what you want. Simple programming made more accessible to developers through programs that help write and compile. The SDKs seem to keep us guessing and trying to do everything by hand. With apps like Titanium Studio it gives us the dreamweaver of mobile app development. We can see what we build more like a code interface of a WYSIWYG. Ok maybe not that far yet, however being able to develop  in Javascript and effect design using CSS3  techniques we can build apps that work.

Looking for more…

Social Twitter for Your Brand

NY-based CoTweet provides an application that allows multiple people to access one Twitter account. The idea is that this idea works best for your “brand.” Company Twitter accounts built not just for individual users. They describe the service as “team workflow for Twitter”.

Don’t just give a password out to anyone who needs to post to an account. The application is actually pretty slick – it tracks which person made the reply, offers the ability to forward tweets to certain people on the team to respond to, etc.

The service is currently in private beta but they expect to open next week.

iPhone and Tethering

Well it looks like Tethering is not coming to the iPhone, at leased not to my iPhone. I jut got off of the phone with AT&T and they gave me the run down. Not only do I need to give up my unlimited $30.00 a month package but to add tethering it will convert my account from a $30 plan to a $45 plan. This would be ok if it was unlimited, but as it stands I use a little less than 1gb of data per month on the phone. If I were to add tethering and connect my laptop to it, just email and web surfing would out me way over the limits. What is with these people and what do they think that they are accomplishing? They are offering a lame 1.2mb download speed and 500mb up, I currently get at leased 2mb down from Verizon on my 3g card and 1mb up. I think that this ATT thing is a total rip off. When will Apple give us someone else to work with.

Courior Tablet

Note book… I always have tons of files 210GB to be exact of everything on my laptop. I never seem to be able to keep notes on my computer, I have dozens of notepads all from different meetings it would be really cool to have a tool that looks like this and could actually work in some way to keep all of my projects organized in an organic way such as this. I think that is something that we all have problems with is finding ways to organize our brains on paper and then keep those notes in and all of the other resources together so that we can go back to look at them. When we have web projects that we are working on we keep all of the files on a server and all of the notes on paper in the client file. Hard drives would never be big enough, it would be really interesting to be able to organize meeting notes, video, audio, handwritten notes and web sites and resources in a way that we could share and backup.

As a followup to this post, I now use an iPad and have found one or two decent apps like “Penultimate” and “Sling note. These apps are ok, but still not the best as organizing them is still not perfect or easy. Still looking, but you can be sure that when I find a good notes app for the iPad I will let everyone know. By the way I am editing this blog using “WordPress” for iPad…Rocken!
